Admire the steeple at the Reschen lake – a unique view

Around and even in the Reschen lake, there are some attractions that you can visit during your vacation in the Eden hotel. First to mention is the steeple sunken in the lake. The bell tower of the former parish church of St. Katharina from 1357 was not allowed for reasons of preservation to be blown up, as in 1950 when the old village of Graun and part of our village Reschen were flooded. In 2009 the masonry, the roof and the dials of the clock tower were repaired. At high water levels, only a part of the church tower sticks out of the lake, at low tide you have the opportunity to admire it in all its glory. It is no wonder that the old church tower is a popular photo scene and has thus become the unofficial symbol of the Reschen pass!

There is a hiking trail from the Reschen lake to Etsch source

Another attraction is the famous Etsch source at the border of South Tyrol. The Etsch is Italy’s second longest river and it flows from South Tyrol over Trentino and Veneto to the Adriatic sea. From the center in Reschen the Vinschger alpine trail leads you on a gentle walk of about 20 minutes to the source of the Etsch, where you can refresh yourself with delicious spring water.

The monastery Marienberg is the highest benedictine abbey in all of Europe

The monastery Marienberg was built in the 12th century on a mountainside above Burgeis. History was written in this monastery, which was a spiritual and cultural center of the upper Vinschgau. Visit the museum and the crypt with its famous frescoes, which are typical for the alpine art of the middle ages.

What else you should see at the Reschen pass

At the museum Old Graun you can inform yourself with a photographic documentation about the downfall and the reconstruction of the villages Reschen and Graun related to the flooding.

If you are interested in the history of South Tyrol a visit to the bunkers and tank traps along the alpine wall is recommended. Why not get on a guided tour, organized by the tourist office, to learn more about this unique defense system.

For the fans of the middle ages, the Naudersberg castle is particularly interesting. In addition to a permanent exhibition of rural and artisan exhibits, you have the opportunity to visit the prison kitchen and cells here.
